What does “teeth in a day” really mean?
The phrase is used in ads for several different treatments, shown in the timeline guide on this page. Knowing which one you are being offered helps you compare honestly.
Many ads mean immediate loading: a temporary crown or bridge attached on the day the implant is placed. Teeth in a day implants for a full arch put a temporary fixed bridge on several implants soon after surgery, and All-on-4 full arch treatment is one example.

Is a one-day dental implant the same as a finished tooth?
No. In every version, the teeth you leave with are temporary. The implant needs a few months to fuse with the jawbone before your final crown or bridge is made.
So one day dental implants do not mean the whole procedure is finished in a day. They mean you may avoid going without teeth while the implant heals. For many people with missing teeth in the smile, that is the real appeal.

Who may qualify for an immediate implant?
Not everyone is a candidate, and a careful dentist will say so. The key question is whether the implant is firm enough in the bone to carry a tooth right away.
You are more likely to be considered if you have:
- Enough dense, healthy bone to hold the implant firmly at placement.
- No active infection at the site, or one that can be fully cleared.
- Healthy gums, or gum disease that has been treated first.
- A bite that can be controlled, without heavy grinding that would overload a new implant.
- Good general health, with conditions such as diabetes well controlled. Smoking slows healing.
If any of these are missing, a staged approach is usually the safer choice. That might mean letting the extraction site heal, building up bone, or waiting to attach a tooth.
Immediate vs staged implants
Both paths can lead to a good final tooth. The difference is how you get there.
| Approach | What happens | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate loading | Temporary tooth attached when the implant is placed | No gap, but asks more of your bone early |
| Immediate placement only | Implant placed right after extraction, tooth added later | Fewer surgeries, with a short wait for the tooth |
| Staged (traditional) | Site and implant heal before any tooth is attached | More appointments and time, less early stress on the implant |
If you need a tooth out first, read what having a tooth removed involves. For the standard path from start to finish, see our page on standard implant treatment.

What are the dangers of one day dental implants?
The main risk is movement. If an implant carries a tooth too soon, it can shift while the bone is still bonding to it. Too much movement can stop the implant from integrating, and it may need to be removed and replaced later.
Other things to know before you choose:
- Infection or weak bone raise the risk. Those are reasons to slow down, not to push ahead.
- Speed can hide steps. Final teeth, follow-up visits and repairs are separate stages.
None of this means immediate implants are a bad idea. It means the decision should be made case by case, after an exam and X-rays.

Questions to ask any office that offers teeth in a day
One day implant dentistry is advertised widely. These questions help you compare offers fairly:
- Is the tooth I leave with temporary or final?
- What happens if the implant is not stable enough on surgery day?
- How many appointments come after surgery, and what does each one cover?
- Does the quote include the final crown or bridge?
- Who places the implant, and what implant training do they have?
How Dr. Poles decides which approach fits you
Dr. Poles is a Board Certified Diplomate of the ICOI and the IDIA, with advanced implant training at the ILAPEO Institute in Brazil in 2022 and 2025. That training matters most in the decision not to rush.
The practice holds a 5.0 Google rating from 541 reviews. Protecting your oral health comes before speed.
- 01 Consultation. Dr. Poles examines your teeth and gums, takes X-rays and reviews your health history.
- 02 Honest recommendation. He explains whether an immediate approach is reasonable for you, or why a staged plan is safer.
- 03 Placement. If an implant is right for you, it is placed with the area numbed and its stability is checked. Dr. Poles may or may not recommend an early temporary tooth, depending on how firm the implant is.
- 04 Healing. The bone fuses with the implant. You follow your aftercare instructions and attend checkups.
- 05 Final tooth. Once healing is confirmed, your final crown or bridge is fitted to your bite.

Implant timelines to compare
There is more than one path to an implant tooth. These are the main ones.
Immediate Placement
The tooth is removed and the implant is placed at one appointment, when the bone allows it.
Immediate Loading
A temporary crown goes on the implant at placement. The final crown follows after healing.
Full Arch Teeth in a Day
Several implants carry a temporary fixed bridge soon after surgery, for patients replacing a whole arch.
Staged Treatment
The implant heals before a tooth is attached. Slower, but gentler on the implant when bone is limited.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do not see your question? Call us and we will talk it through.
Call (847) 483-8833Can I get an implant and a tooth at one visit?
Immediate loading is a general option in implant dentistry, not a standard part of every plan. Dr. Poles may or may not recommend it, depending on your bone, gums and health. He decides after an exam and X-rays, and if it is not the safest choice, he explains a staged plan instead.
Who is not a good candidate for immediate implants?
People with too little bone, an active infection at the site, untreated gum disease, heavy grinding, or health conditions that slow healing are often better served by a staged plan. Smoking also raises the risk. These are checked at your exam before either approach is suggested.
Is an immediate implant more painful?
Not usually. The area is numbed, so most people feel pressure rather than sharp pain. Having the tooth removed and the implant placed at one visit can mean one recovery instead of two. You get aftercare instructions written for your case.
Can I eat normally with a temporary implant tooth?
Not right away. A temporary tooth on a new implant is there for looks and light use. You follow a soft diet and avoid biting hard foods with it until the implant has healed and your final tooth is fitted.
Do immediate implants cost more than staged implants?
Not necessarily. The total depends on the number of implants, the temporary and final teeth, and any extraction or grafting. Fewer visits do not always mean a lower price. Ask any office what its quote includes, from the temporary tooth to the final crown.
